Dreams are an interesting avenue of life. They can either be a blur, or so vivid that it stays on your mind for the day, giving you hope that there is some deeper meaning to it. My dreams have always been very vivid and as of lately even more so. I decided to do a bit of research to get a better understanding of my subconscious self. I tend to dream about people and events that often turn out happening in real life, in which I experience Deja Vu. There is a myth that when someone appears in your dream it means that they miss you or they are thinking about you. Is it even possible that our minds can connect in such a way? And if so, can we learn to control it? These questions inspired me to learn more and I decided to share my findings.

What I have learned is that everyone’s dreams are unique; no other individual can have your personal background, your emotions, or your experiences.  Therefore, your own dreams can only be connected to your own “reality”. Once you have an understanding of your dreams, you have the power to unify the body, mind, and spirit. It provides you with insight into your own self and a means for further self-exploration. You will gain a better understanding and discovery of your true self, and that’s ultimately what life is all about. For starters these are the 5 common types of dreams:

  1. Naked dreams
  2. Chase dreams
  3. Teeth dreams
  4. Flying dreams
  5. Falling dreams

In Naked dreams you become mortified at the realization that you are naked in public, which reflects your vulnerability or feelings of shamefulness. You may be hiding something and are afraid that others can see right through you. Metaphorically, clothes are a means of concealment. Depending on the type of clothes you wear, you can hide your identity or be someone else. But without them, everything is in the open. You are exposed and left without any defenses. Thus your naked dream may be telling you that you are trying to be something that you really are not. Or you are fearful of being ridiculed and disgraced. Such anxieties are elevated especially in situations where you are trying to impress others. Perhaps you are in a new work environment or in a new relationship?

Chase dreams stem from feelings of anxiety. Flee and flight is an instinctive response to a physical threat in the environment. In such dreams, the scenario often features you being pursued by an attacker, an animal, a monster or an unknown figure, who wants to hurt or possibly kill you. Consequently, you run, you hide or you try to outwit your pursuer. Your actions in the dream parallel how you would respond to pressure and cope with fears, stress or various situations in your waking life. Instead of confronting the situation, your dream indicates that you have a tendency to run away and avoid the issue. Ask yourself who is chasing you, so that you can gain a better understanding and insight on the source of your fears and anxieties.

Teeth dreams have two main theories. One theory suggests, dreams about your teeth reflect your anxieties about your appearance and how others perceive you. Your teeth help to convey an image of attractiveness and play an important role in the game of flirtation. Thus, such dreams may stem from a fear of rejection, sexual impotence or the consequences of getting old. Teeth are an important feature to your attractiveness and how you are presented to others. Caring about how you look is natural and healthy. The second theory in regards to teeth dreams is that you are at a loss of power and you are losing control of a certain situation in your life.

Flying dreams fall under a category of dreams known as lucid dreams. Lucid dreams occur when you become aware that you are dreaming (see picture below for more info.). Many dreamers describe the ability to fly in their dreams as an exhilarating, joyful, and liberating experience. If you are flying with ease, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. It may also mean that you have gained a new and different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power. Having difficulties staying in flight indicates a lack of power in controlling your own circumstances.

Falling dreams are also an indication of insecurities, instabilities, and anxieties. You are feeling overwhelmed and out of control in some situation in your waking life. This may reflect the way you feel in your relationship or in your work environment. When you fall, there is nothing that you can hold on to. You more or less are forced toward this downward motion without any control.

In addition to these types, I seem to consistently have a dream where I get into a fight but just end up throwing pillow-soft punches. I’ve heard many people have this dream as well but I couldn’t seem to find a good answer online. Judging by the other types, it’s probably some insecurity issue or lack of power. I also have this dream where I’m going on a trip and I either a) don’t make the flight, or b) make the flight but forget all my luggage and have no money. I would love to know what these mean, if you have any ideas or your own unique dreams feel free to comment!

Now the next time you dream you will be able to wake up with a little background knowledge other than just pure confusion. Sleep tight!

5 Panel Hats

Just like the snap back, 5 panels have also made a comeback into the fashion world. I would say this is due to hip-hop influence, particularly Tyler the Creator. The formation of the hat makes for a more comfortable fit and they incorporate an old school feel with the buckle style fitting strap.

Many of the major labels have their own 5 panels now so you can rep whoever you like. One company I’d like to point out is Toronto’s own Birth of Heroes Co. Their Hawaiian themed hats look dope and I can’t wait to add a few to my collection.

In between hair cuts I find I spend so much time contemplating, “what to do next?” It’s hard trying to find a cool hairstyle that’s conventional for men, because you want it to be both professional for your nine to five, yet edgy enough for the club afterwards. Here is a couple styles I’ve noticed lately that do the trick.

First, is the Disconnected Comb-over. Much like the traditional nerdy comb-over, this style incorporates edginess by shaving the back and sides to create that drastic, defined look. The hair is taken aggressively close on the sides and back typically with a number one blade. This clipper section is taken high up to the point where the head begins to round on the sides. The back is clipped up to the crown and the top is left about four inches long to create that definite disconnect between the sides and top. Some people even go as far as running the the clippers up the comb-over line to give it that extra thick line for definition.

For styling, I always recommend running cold water through your hair first, comb it over (you can use a blow dryer is used to give height in the front), and then add a bit of styling product (preferably matte for a nice texturized look without the shine).

The second hairstyle I’d like to mention is a hybrid between the disconnected comb-over and Sons of Anarchy’s, Jax Teller’s slicked back look. This hairstyle was made popular by David Beckham like every other hairstyle in the past 5 years. If your ever looking for fashion inspiration he is usually a good go to guy. After all, he did end up with the hottest Spice Girl.

If you have any other styles that you think are dope, leave a comment or link below.
